Christine Marr
Student Engagement Chair
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT = LIFE
I am deeply committed to student engagement and have taught in a range of school environments, from Title 1 schools to affluent communities. Regardless of the setting, I have learned that establishing strong connections with students is essential. I believe that keeping students engaged is crucial not only for classroom success, but also for attracting and retaining outstanding teachers in music education. When mentoring new teachers, I emphasize several foundational elements that would also guide my work as student engagement chair: designing an innovative classroom environment, planning both short and long-term engaging lessons, building empathetic relationships with students, and effectively incorporating technology. By applying these approaches, the student engagement chair can help cultivate a dynamic, inclusive, and inspiring elementary music program that nurtures both student achievement and teacher growth.
